Easter - A Rollercoaster of Emotions

Posted on 16 April 2011

Lent and Easter together form a long journey.  We begin thinking about Jesus’ time in the wilderness – 40 days – following his Baptism, when he planned out his ministry, praying to God, asking questions of God, and of himself, as to how he should go about the task ahead.

As we move through Lent, the focus shifts as we begin to think about the events of Holy Week leading up to Good Friday. This was a very special day on which Jesus died so that all the wrong things we do as human beings could be forgiven by God – as one hymn puts it: he took all our guilt and shame on himself when he was crucified.

But that was not the end. On the first Easter Sunday, God brought Jesus back to life again – there are many, many accounts of him being seen – and that meant that death itself had been defeated, and we need no longer live in fear of dying.

God wants us, all of us, to share in the joy of those momentous events around that first Easter. We just have to turn to Christ, put our trust in God, and live as Jesus taught us to – loving God and one another.

A warm welcome awaits you at any of the events and services listed, or at any time during the year.
