Sharing Our Faith Together

Ever Be

by Peter Lane 3 February 2021

Psalm 95 v1-6
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.  Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.  For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.  In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.  The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.  Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

As we continue to deal with the latest lockdown there are inevitably days in the depths of winter when we can feel low and alone. It is at times like this that I find it helpful to focus on the places and times where I feel closest to God. For me there are two ways I can achieve this.

Firstly, I love to get out into the countryside and breath in the fresh air whilst admiring God’s creation through the beauty of the flowers, trees, hills, valleys, rivers, streams, birds, animals and everything that surrounds me.

Secondly, I love to sing worship songs, especially in a situation where large numbers of Christians are gathered together. Sadly, that is something we cannot do at the moment, but I look forward to the occasions in the not too distant future when we can do this once more.

I am sure that I am not alone with these thoughts. You only have to look at the videos that accompany the "Sharing Our Faith Together" articles to see that many of the hymns and worship songs are played against a background of some wonderful scenery.

Chris and myself have been privileged to attend several events hosted by the American based worship group "Bethel Music". A few years ago they took this concept of linking together creation and worship one step further by erecting a stage on a hill top and praising God through an evening of worship whilst overlooking mountains and lakes as the sun went down. The result is a powerful and beautiful dvd. The following song "Ever Be" gives a flavour of this special occasion.

Prayer
Dear Lord,
Your love is enduring through the winter rain, and beyond the horizon with mercy for today.
Faithful You have been and faithful you will be. You pledge yourself to me and it's why I sing, Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips.
Amen.
