The Open Door

One of our favourite films to watch as a family when we were growing up, was The Sound of Music, and I often remember what Maria says as she leaves the abbey to go and look after the Captain’s seven children. “When the Lord closes a door, somewhere He opens a window.”
For my birthday I received a notebook with the quote “When one door closes, open it again, that’s how doors work!”
Matthew 7:7-12 Ask, Seek, Knock
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
Jesus tells us to be persistent in prayer. Sometimes he answers straight away but sometimes we have to wait for an answer, and we are reminded here not to give up after a few prayers have been said. Sometimes we have to keep asking, seeking and knocking in order for the door to be opened. Our loving Father understands what we need and He will answer our prayers in the right time and in the way that is best for us.
As we keep asking and seeking it is good to focus on who we are praying to – Our amazing, powerful, faithful, loving Heavenly Father. Our Healer, our Messiah, our Redeemer. Prayer changes things so keep knocking.

Father we thank you for your promise to answer our prayers. Please help us to keep asking, seeking and knocking and give us your patience and trust as we wait. Amen.
