A Map and a Guide
by Andy Cokayne 3 May 2022
I was recently reminded of Psalm 48 in my daily readings. Years ago I can remember singing a chorus based on the first two verses of this Psalm. The words of verse 1 'Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise,' are a great way to start any time of praise, it takes our thoughts away from ourselves, and instead focuses our mind on our Father God, how great he is, and therefore how worthy he is of our praise.
Verse 14 reads 'For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide to the end.' Its as though the Psalmist has said "Look I have just told you how great our God is, there is no other god like him, and this great God is Our God, therefore he will remain our God forever." Then, knowing that his readers will always want to know what's next, he goes on to say "He will be our guide forever." We often pray for God's guidance as we struggle with decisions. What we need is both guidance and a guide, a map that gives us landmarks and directions, and a constant companion who has an intimate knowledge of the way. The bible will be such a map and the Holy Spirit will be the constant companion and guide. As we make our way through life, lets make sure we lean upon both the map and the Guide.

Prayer
Heavenly Father when we are troubled by decisions that we need to make, enable us to say with conviction like the Psalmist that you are our God for ever and ever; and you will be our guide to the end.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen
