A Note of Praise
by Peter Blount 21 April 2024
Paul in his scriptural writing often encouraging his reader / listener that at all times and in all circumstances the believer must adopt an attitude of praise. I quote one of my favourite and much used scriptures,
1 Thessalonians 5 : 16 – 18
Paul says, ‘Be joyful Always, Pray continually, Give thanks in all circumstances for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus.
Throughout history theologians, teachers and preachers have taken up this theme and, of course, it is a terrific way to engender a positive attitude and a sense of hope.
I find it an even greater blessing and encouragement when this great theme of praise in all circumstances is taken up by ordinary people, folk going about their daily life just giving thanks to God, that despite problems and difficulties they are able to acknowledge, through praise, that they are blessed beyond measure.
There is a hymn in our hymn book who’s author is recorded as ‘anonymous’ and yet he or she was clearly inspired by God because there is a an immediate sense of joy and praise that emits from it. The author acknowledges that from first thing in a morning and in all aspects of life praise to God is the order of the day. In fact the line ‘May Jesus Christ be praised’ appears no less than 10 times in the five verses of this hymn.
I’m sure you have worked it out by now that I am referring to – ‘When Morning Guilds the Skies’.
Enjoy it now.
