All The Words of This Life
by Rev Greg Obong-Oshotse 7 August 2020
Reading Acts 5:12-42
Text: Acts 5:20 “Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life.”
Of the watering down of the Gospel that was becoming trendy in his day, Charles Spurgeon once said, “He who does not believe God will punish sin will not believe that He will pardon it through atoning blood. I charge you who profess the Lord not to be unbelieving with regard to the terrible threatenings of God to the ungodly. Believe the threat even though it should chill your blood. Believe though nature shrinks from the overwhelming doom. For if you do not believe, disbelieving God at one point will drive you to disbelieve God upon the other points of revealed truth.”
Christ supernaturally frees His disciples from prison to continue to preach “all the words of this Life” (“the whole message of this Life” NASB) The word for Life here refers to eternal (heavenly)life, not biological (physical) life. ‘All the words of this Life’ is another way of saying the full Gospel of salvation. It is the only antidote to the corruption of the earthly life. The only alternative to the fallen life. The only replacement for the godless life. And they are to proclaim all of the Gospel, including the offensive parts that landed them in prison in the first place. All covers the love as well as the judgement, the righteousness as well as the sin, the mercy as well as the repentance, the grace as well as the obedience, the privilege as well as the responsibility, the heaven as well as the hell. In the same way, we too are to proclaim ‘all the words of this Life,’ the whole message of this Life. While people put their confidence in the earthly life, and pursue the physical life with all they have, while all their hopes are bound up with the biological life, and they are wrapped up in their desire for the Adamic life, they will continue to miss out on eternal life, the only true life that there is.
