Psalm 57
This Psalm was probably written when David was hiding in a cave from Saul and his enemies who wanted to harm him. As we self-isolate in our homes at this time, I am sure we can relate to verse 1:
“I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed”.
In the midst of David’s worry and loneliness in the cave, he cries out to God for His help, love and protection. As David honestly talks to God, his words start to change from fear to praise. He starts to fix his heart and mind on God rather than the problem.
Many stories in the Bible remind us that it was during difficult times that God’s people developed their faith and relationship with Him. Whilst we have extra time on our hands now, it could be an opportunity to grow closer to God as we pray and praise just like David did:
“My heart is steadfast, O God,
My heart is steadfast.
I will sing and make music
Awake my soul.”

Father, we thank you for your great love and faithfulness. We pray that you will keep us under the shadow of your wing, and fill us all with your peace. Help us to draw close to you and to experience you afresh at this time.
Amen
