God’s Gift of Prayer

Reading James 1 v2- 8
My brothers and sisters, consider yourselves fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way, for you know that when your faith succeeds in facing such trials, the result is the ability to endure. Make sure that your endurance carries you all the way without failing, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. But if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you; because God gives generously and graciously to all. But when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is driven and blown about by the wind. People like that, unable to make up their minds and undecided in all they do, must not think that they will receive anything from the Lord.

As I start this morning’s thought I would like to commence as James did with these words…
My Brothers and Sisters because it seems so long since we have had fellowship except through the written daily word. I don’t know about you, but it would be great to put arms around each other, blessing each other in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. James was a practical writer and I advise you if time allows, to look at his 5 chapter book.
In the reading above almost in the middle, there is a word man invariably dodges when it comes to living, wisdom. Whilst I am writing our prime minister is pondering on what is necessary for the healthy good of the nation with regard the possibility of a second spike with the pandemic.I am sure decisions like this, none of us would like to make. However all people in pre and current condition experience hardship of some form at sometime of our lives. Knowing Christ should and must supply us with a reaction to the trial of that time. There is a beautiful hymn that I am sure helps us all when we are in despair and if the Prime Minister needs some wise decision making perhaps he should consider the wise words Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire, uttered or unexpressed.
We have as Christians the gift of prayer and when we are given gifts it’s how we react to it that matters. The gift of prayer allows us to talk and listen to God. Believing in the power of prayer is imperative.
