Read Psalm 121:1-8

Psalm 121:2

“My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.”

Whilst at theological college, I was attached to two churches in London for my practical work. I commuted into London on Sundays to worship (preaching a few times), and Wednesdays to do pastoral work. At the end of a pastoral visit one Wednesday evening, I asked the elderly lady if she would like me to read from a portion of the Bible before we prayed. She said ‘Yes,’ and was pleased when I turned to Psalm 121. I didn’t have to read. She recited the entire psalm, and did it with such grace and warmth that you thought angels were in attendance.

Never will I forget that psalm. Each time I return to it, the blessedness of the encounter still warms the heart. Blessed indeed is the one who knows that his or her help comes from the Creator. My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. If He made heaven and earth, He can help you. Let your need be as high as Mount Everest and it will not be daunting to Him. Let your challenge be as tough as the hardest bedrock, and it cannot stand before Him. Let your sorrow be as dark as the darkest night, His light will dispel it. The Creator who made you is able to help you, whatever your situation, whatever your challenge.
