Safe in His hands
by Jane Smith 2 September 2021
One of the hymns included in last Sunday's service on Radio Derby was 'Servant King'. As often happens when I sing that particular hymn, I was struck by the phrase '..hands that flung stars into space, to cruel nails surrendered..' The image of those same hands creating our world and everything in it and then being so damaged and disfigured on Good Friday is something I find very powerful. There are also many references to those same hands throughout the Bible, many of which provide comfort and strength to the reader. Here are a selection which I find particularly reassuring:-
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 1 Peter 5:6
For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13
See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands Isaiah 49:16
Also in Judah the hand of God was on the people to give them unity of mind to carry out what the king and his officials had ordered, following the word of the Lord. 2 Chronicles 30:12

Let us pray
Heavenly Father, help us to leave everything in Your hands so we can see, in everything, the work of Your hand. Amen
Psalm 25:1-2
Lord, I put my life in your hands. I trust in you, my God, and I will not be disappointed.
