The Most Valuable Thing the World Affords

Read Psalm 119 v169-176
‘I long for your salvation, O Lord, and your law is my delight.’ (v174)
I once read a passage telling in the early 1930s a group of divers from the salvage ship Artiglo began the task of exploring the sunken Egypt - a treasure ship that had gone to the bottom during a fierce Mediterranean storm. For a number of years the ship had been marked and surveyed and eventually the time came for work to begin on bringing to the surface its great treasures.
When the divers cut away the section of the deck which formed the roof of the bullion room their eyes fell upon a strange and unexpected object. Those who could read English knew what they had found - it was a Bible. They had begun to look for treasure and their first discovery was the Book of God.
There are many today who would say that the Bible has outlived its usefulness and has been replaced by the writings of a more enlightened age. But millions of people in almost every nation see it as the world’s greatest treasure. In the coronation service of Queen Elizabeth in Westminster Abbey in 1953 she was handed a Bible with the words, ‘Take this book…it is the most valuable thing the world affords’.
So take the Bible each day and let God speak to you through it. A rich reward awaits you. Always remember - God has not only spoken through the Scriptures. He speaks through it still.

Prayer
Our Father and our God, from this time forward help us to see no day complete unless it includes some time spent with you in prayer and with Your Word. Whet our appetite for more of the Word. In Jesus’ Name.
Amen.
