The Potter and the Clay
by Chris Lane 12 May 2024
My thoughts started with these words of Paul.
Philippians 1: 9-11
I pray that your love will keep on growing more and more, together with true knowledge and perfect judgement, so that you will be able to choose what is best. Then you will be free from all impurity and blame on the Day of Christ. Your lives will be filled with the truly good qualities which only Jesus Christ can produce, for the glory and praise of God.
How do we do this? Then a song came into my mind.

Isaiah 64:8
But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.
Jesus is the one who can change us. He is the one who can fill our lives with truly good qualities that Paul speaks of. When we look back on our lives, we can see how God’s hand has been at work. We are the clay. If we allow God to be the potter he can work through His word and through the power of the Holy Spirit. He can work through us as we pray, spend time with Him and listen to His voice. God will mould us into all that He would he have us be, so that he can fulfil all the plans He has for each of our lives from now to eternity. As we allow Him to fashion us, He will take away all those parts of us that are not of God. God will hone us to become more like him.
Let us pray – you may wish to read or sing
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me,
Mould me, fill me,
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me. Amen
