The Strength of my Soul

In Psalm 18 we can read David’s praises to God as he thanks Him for His help, strength and victory over his enemies.

How I love you, Lord!
You are my defender.

2 The Lord is my protector;
He is my strong fortress.
My God is my protection,
and with Him I am safe.
He protects me like a shield;
He defends me and keeps me safe.

3 I call to the Lord
and He saves me from my enemies
Praise the Lord!

When troubles come or we are feeling uncertain about the way ahead, we can choose to try and figure it out in our strength or to trust in God. Even though it feels like the world has been turned upside down recently, God is still in control and He has a plan, He never leaves us on our own.

Nothing takes God by surprise, and as we spend time in His presence, He promises to give us the protection, help and strength to take the next steps with Him.

“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord Himself, is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation.” (Isaiah 12:2)

Over recent months, I have had to cancel several planned trips to visit my family in Lancashire because of lockdowns and travel restrictions, I know many have had similar experiences. Whilst I have been shielding at home and feeling far away from my friends and family I have listened to this song many times. It reminds me that God strengthens our soul when we need His help and comfort.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your loving care and for showing us that we are never on our own. Please guide us in Your way and hold, steady and protect each one of us in Your loving arms.
