Reading: Matthew 19:16-30

The rich young man wanted to know what he could do to make sure that he would have eternal life. Jesus gave him a challenge to show that salvation doesn’t come from good deeds or following rules, but is a gift from God.

“I assure you: it will be very hard for rich people to enter the Kingdom of heaven. I repeat: it is much harder for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.”

Some people may have been surprised to hear that, thinking that rich people had the best chance, but Jesus replied, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” These verses remind us that God is all powerful, that He is in control and He has a plan for all our lives.

This theme is repeated throughout the Bible – when Sarah and Abraham doubted God’s promise to give them a child, God said “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Gen 18:14). Job, in the middle of his troubles, hears God speaking to him and then says “I know that You can do all things and that no plan of Yours can be ruined” (Job 42:2).

Our God of miracles is with us and promises to strengthen us for whatever situation we are facing today, He loves us, and reminds us that with Him all things are possible.
