Raise a Hallelujah!

Psalm 149
Praise the LORD!
Sing a new song to the LORD;
praise him in the assembly of his faithful people!
Be glad, Israel, because of your Creator;
rejoice, people of Zion, because of your king!
Praise his name with dancing;
play drums and harps in praise of him.
The LORD takes pleasure in his people;
he honours the humble with victory.
Let God’s people rejoice in their triumph
and sing joyfully all night long.
The ancient Hebrew people had seven different words they used to express their praise to God. In verse 3, praise is 'halal' from which we derive the word hallelujah - an exuberant expression of celebration.
Some time ago a member of Newmount asked me if I'd heard the song “Raise a Hallelujah.” Since then I have listened to the song many times, and it has been a song God has laid on my heart.
The writers Jonathan and Melissa Helser wrote this song over the life of their friends’ young son who was in a critical condition in hospital. In their own words “while we were praying for a miracle a song came out of our mouths.” Worship can be a powerful weapon against the forces of the enemy. Never underestimate the power of your praises. Keep on worshiping through the trials and God will meet you there.
The words keep resounding with me.
When we sing ..... enemies flee
When we sing ..... louder than the unbelief
When we sing ..... our weapon is the melody
When we sing ..... heaven fights for us
When we sing ..... we declare God is King
When we sing ..... we declare God is alive
When we sing ..... fear takes a backseat
When we sing ..... heaven invades the earth

Psalm 30:11
You have changed my sadness into a joyful dance;
you have taken away my sorrow
and surrounded me with joy.
So I will not be silent;
I will sing praise to you.
LORD, you are my God,
I will give you thanks for ever.
Prayer
Lord God, may all that we sing give you all the praise and honour that's due your name. May we sing so heaven invades the earth. May we sing in faith so enemies flee, declaring you as King of Kings and Lord of Lords over all the earth. Amen
