Sharing Our Faith Together

Love Empowered People

I regularly attend a Pilates class at the Haven Christian Centre in Heatherton, Derby. Last week I noticed a banner with the words …

Loved Empowered People

In Pauls letter to the Ephesians 1:13-23 we read -

And you also became God's people when you heard the true message, the Good News that brought you salvation. You believed in Christ, and God put his stamp of ownership on you by giving you the Holy Spirit he had promised. The Spirit is the guarantee that we shall receive what God has promised his people, and this assures us that God will give complete freedom to those who are his. Let us praise his glory!
For this reason, ever since I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God's people, I have not stopped giving thanks to God for you. I remember you in my prayers and ask the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you the Spirit, who will make you wise and reveal God to you, so that you will know him.  I ask that your minds may be opened to see his light, so that you will know what is the hope to which he has called you, how rich are the wonderful blessings he promises his people, and how very great is his power at work in us who believe. This power working in us is the same as the mighty strength which he used when he raised Christ from death and seated him at his right side in the heavenly world.  Christ rules there above all heavenly rulers, authorities, powers, and lords; he has a title superior to all titles of authority in this world and in the next. God put all things under Christ's feet and gave him to the church as supreme Lord over all things.  The church is Christ's body, the completion of him who himself completes all things everywhere.

In this passage Paul writes that God’s great power is available to us all.

When we look at our world, we can see God’s power all around us.

In the roar of the wind and the gentle breeze.

In the mighty waves of the sea and the tide gently turning at the water’s edge.

In the tress changing each season from Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer.

In the birds building their nests, caring for their young, finding food and water independently.

We know God’s power in the way he hears and answers our prayers.

Do we believe that the power God has to give us is the same as that which raised Jesus from the cross?

Do we limit God’s power in our lives by our own doubt?

We are loved by God.

We are empowered by Him through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

The grave could not contain
The power of His name
Death you overcame
Once and for all

Mighty Saviour lifted high
King forever, Jesus Christ
Crowned in glory, raised to life
The same power lives in us.

‘…and how very great is his power at work in us who believe. This power working in us is the same as the mighty strength which he used when he raised Christ from death and seated him at his right side in the heavenly world.’ (Ephesians 1 v19-20)

Father God,
As we look around your world each day we are reminded of your power.

As we reflect on your presence in our lives, we can see how your power has given us strength in many situations.

Lord, enable us never to doubt the power that you can have on our lives to bring glory to your name.

Amen
