John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world

Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight
Mine is the morning
Born of the one light Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise ev’ry morning
God’s recreation of the new day

Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world

Lord, as the light of each new day dawns we look around us in awe and wonder as we see and hear the signs of new life in nature, reminding us of the certainty of new life for all who turn to You.

We pray for all who are ill with this virus, thinking especially of those in hospital without even the comfort of family and friends around them. Be with their loved ones too in the agony of enforced separation from them, when they all need each other the most.

Lord, may the light of Your love, shown to us through your son Jesus Christ, shine into the darkness of illness and isolation so that all of us will know Your presence with us. May we trust You anew each morning to keep our hearts and minds firmly fixed on Your promise to us that You will never leave us or forsake us, whatever we face.

Amen
