Beyond Belief

She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Matthew 9:21
In the mid 60s I had just started work in the rubber industry and went to Burton Technical College on day release and night classes (not clever enough for uni) . Arrangements were made for our class to go away for a week to Barleston, Stoke to learn about changes that lay ahead in our lives.
For example:
Our food would be grown in a laboratory. We had physical and chemical labs in the factory so it took some imagination.
People would live in boxes high in the sky.
Illness would be eradicated as there was going to be a cure for everything.
I can’t remember them saying anything about men in space, but that was already happening.

Matthew was a tax collector, reviled by many, but Jesus chose him as one of his friends/disciples. In this Gospel he records a simple act of faith in a very active period of Christ’s life but also how Jesus responds to this lady’s problem.
Through life, whatever our age, there are things that baffle our thinking. However, as Christians, we can put out our hands (metaphorically speaking), just as the woman did in this scriptural verse and maybe renewed, healed, or experience a new closeness to our Saviour.
Prayer
Father God, thank you for our very special friend, your Son.
May a world in turmoil in so many ways, turn to you now whilst there is time.
Amen
