Sharing Our Faith Together

Trees

by Peter Blount and Sue Muessig 28 July 2021

Good morning and welcome.

Today’s Bible Story is – The Mustard Seed  (Mark 4:30-34 and Matthew 17:20)

The Theme is -  Faith
Jesus often used parables to help people to understand the meaning behind what He was teaching them.  The parable of the mustard seed is just a few verses in the Bible, but it tells us God can do with just a little bit of faith.

The mustard seed was the smallest seed a farmer used, but from it grows a very tall tree.  No matter how small your faith is, God can use it to do great things.  Every time we pray and trust in God, our faith can grow bigger and stronger.

“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”  Matthew 17:20

We Explore Trees
When you go for your walk in the park today, have a good look at the trees. Can you imagine that once they were all tiny seeds? Think of all that has happened over the years it has taken for each tree to grow. Can you hear any birds singing?  How do the trees help to remind us about God’s greatness and His constant faithfulness to each one of us?

The following poem, written by Joyce Kilmer in 1913 is simply called ‘Trees’

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

As you are faithful to us, help us to be more faithful in return. Amen
